Les Mills

Les Mills Christchurch is Les Mills New Zealand’s first purpose built fitness club. The four level, 3800m² facility was required to epitomise Les Mills’ brand commitment to delivering world class clubs that are contemporary, accessible, and recognisable.

The club is located on the corner of Cashel Street and Woolsack Lane. Occupying the full 1000m² site, it is constructed of precast concrete, glazing, Danpalon polycarbonate panels and Etercolor external cladding. The glazing and translucent cladding are used to maximum effect to provide glimpses of the activity and vibrancy within the building, and to optimise natural light. A double height reception area is on the ground floor at the Cashel Street entrance.

A central precast stair links the exercise areas, which are located over the upper three levels. The brief asked for interior spaces that are dynamic, interactive, and provide changeable exercise zones. Facilities include a cardio cinema, two group fitness studios, and RPM room, women’s gym and main gym, crèche, shower and changes areas, reception / lounge area, office and maintenance facilities and a covered car park.

HMA were engaged on this project after the main structural & services design was completed. The interiors were designed by Alan Cowey Design.
