Rembrandt Suits Interiors
NZIA Wellington Architecture Award 2008
Rembrandt is a New Zealand company that manufactures quality men’s suits. HMA has designed the fit-out for both its factory near Wellington and its Sydney shop/office. Both projects feature a careful, economical approach to the constraints of limited space and budget.
The 40sqm Sydney retail space functions primarily as a display showroom for visiting clients, but also as an office with meeting facilities. HMA has maximised the sense of space with a focus on the product. Storage and display functions are either completely concealed or encased as a recess within the wall fabric. Back lighting of translucent panels, a large mirrored wall and a restrained palette of materials have also been used to increase the perception of space.
At the Wellington factory, the fit-out was more extensive, including reception, showroom, offices and staff facilities.
“The stark contrast between the existing workspace and revitalised showroom and office is a reminder of the importance of natural light, clear articulation of design intentions and how much this can improve the working environment”. NZIA Awards Jury 2008.
