SILVERSCREEN/ OKTOBOR
NZIA New Zealand Award, 2003 Two distinct identities were created by redeveloping a cluster of commercial and warehouse buildings; Silverscreen is a leading film production company and Oktobor is a post-production facility. The contrast between the enclosed, highly-controlled workspaces required for filmmaking technologies and the more spacious areas needed for creative thinking, led to a scheme that organised the hermetic workspaces around common, open spaces. These were naturally ventilated and flooded with light. The Oktobor building cantilevers a compressed-sheet volume, containing computer suites, over a glazed band below. The Silverscreen building links offices, staff facilities, and project spaces around a luminous central atrium. This building is capped by a private office and apartment. |
