Herriot + Melhuish: Architecture |
IL CASINO RESTAURANT This project for an established landmark and historic structures won praise from client and council planners alike. A great deal of care was taken to retain the much loved features of one of New Zealand’s longest running restaurants and at the same time transform the tired building, by modernizing and inserting a limited number of apartments. Attention to volume and detail provided a vibrant insertion into the cityscape, an example of the whole being more than the sum of the parts. Unfortunately, construction was stopped due to the tragic loss of the owner and Wellington icon, Remiro Bresolin. By establishing how a building will look in context, HMA can assist clients, neighbours and Territorial Authorities to understand the impact of proposed developments on the city. This direct and easily understood communication can be instrumental in securing consents and reducing opposition to sensitive schemes. |
