POD CAFE; Resene NZIA Local Award 2006 Smooth, polished and sleek, the interiors speak of great attention to detail. – Urbis 2004 In the city, every space must work for a living, and work long hours… Designed to move seamlessly from bright daytime escape from the office (whether for a break or to rent fully equipped meeting and function rooms) to vibrant night-time bar, the Pod Café combines a modern urban aesthetic with welcoming spaces in which to watch the world go by. HMA worked closely with the client and with the Studio of Pacific Architecture (architects for the larger development into which the Pod Café fits) to create a unique urban intervention on an important corner site in central Wellington. From air circulation to managing the large areas of glass, from the exceptional hanging ceiling to the dark resin floor, every element shows great thought and in some cases required experiment and extensive investigation to produce the final result. |
