Church Alterations, Christchurch Revitalisation of a central city 1950s brick church including re-strengthening of the existing congregational hall and annexe. Provision of new cafe, offices, and teaching facilities has been ordered by the insertion of a contemporary two level circulation spine providing clear connections whilst acting as an intermediary transition device between the existing brick buildings and the new contemporary elements. A synergy between old and new creates a new composition, addressing the street edge, and welcoming interaction from pedestrians with a new cafe. A central sawtooth atrium provides a three level high congregation space maintaining the quality of the former external areas, and providing a sympathetic connection to the existing structures. |
